I fell off the Crossfit wagon pretty hard - the paleo challenge really managed to play merry hell with my system, and I didn’t feel like I had energy back until after Thanksgiving. So, the summation of changes/updates:
So I’ve hit a few Crossfit classes but not many, picked up a 20 pound kettlebell to do swings with at home, and have hashed more weekends than not this year. I’ve put some weight back on, and I’m not happy about that, but I’m definitely more physically capable than I was this time last year.
Proof? This year I knocked 11 minutes off of my Beer Mile time.
After a weekend of many miles of hash trail, I went out for a lunchtime jog and managed to do something to my ankle. Hurts to walk, it swelled up like a balloon, and I’m rocking the elevation and anti-inflammatory routine. Irksome, because I picked up a groupon for a Crossfit box by my house that I wanted to try, and I need this ankle to be better for hashes in Seattle and Bremerton this weekend!
It’s exceedingly interesting how after two weeks of warning signs and false starts, as well as a general exhaustion and malaise, Girl Hell commenced the day after I went off paleo. I’d hoped the opposite would be the case, that paleo would have evened out my erratic body without artificial hormones. Wish I had money to talk to an endocrinologist or at least a nutritionist about it, because it’s an interesting correlation.
Planning on departing the Paleo wagon Friday, to celebrate my favourite holiday of the year. Need to haul my butt to the box to prep for the delicious atrocities I’m going to do to myself.
Paleo has been really tough the last week and a half, more on that later. I’ve stayed on the straight and narrow, but I’m of mixed opinions overall, and we should all talk about that. :)
Need to get caught up with this now that I’ve only got a week to go on the paleo. Interview and test prep has been eating my face, haven’t hit Crossfit thanks to Shark Week’s hormone poisoning.
…I think I lost a day somewhere. It’s been that kind of week?
About halfway through this thing! Trundled my butt out of bed in the morning, nuked a sweet potato (have now taken to buying them in Costco sizes), fried two eggs sunny-side up, and topped it with turkey meat, threw it in a ziploc container, and scooted across town to the PMP test prep class I signed up for. Ate half the concoction for breakfast, the other half for lunch, and mixed it up with a green banana and an apple.
I was hungry off and on throughout the day, and plan to pack more for Sunday. After class, I stopped at Qdoba and got a naked steak salad with grilled veggies, pico de gallo, and guacamole added, and it was so delicious! There must have been some kind of additives in the meat to make it that tasty. Met up with Riddler, his roomie and another friend at a haunted house, which was lots of fun, if rather precarious footing to scramble through!
When I got home I tried an apple with almond butter, having picked some up at Costco on Friday, and found to my dismay that it was more of a goopy dip than a spread. Popped it in the fridge to hopefully thicken up, as there’s a lot to get through now, and it’s all messy enough that I won’t be inclined to use it often! It was tasty, I’ll grant, but way too drippy to be practical for packing for lunches and the like.
There’s a new Crossfit box that opened near my house, and I stopped by on Wednesday to check it out! Crossfit Fuse looks pretty awesome, with well laid out equipment and superfriendly folks. It doesn’t work with my schedule (no super early or evening classes), but I’d seriously think about doing a fundraiser WOD there on a weekend some time!
I’m considering taking a break weekend at the end of October, when our challenge ends, and then picking it back up again until Thanksgiving, and then until the Christmas break. Thoughts? I need a break weekend from strict paleo (and if I miss pumpkin Reese’s peanut butter cups I will cry)
Friday wasn’t too bad, had baked eggs for breakfast, turkey and cauliflower for lunch, and then hit Crossfit after work for A Serious Workout. Got over to Riddler’s and basically just collapsed in the bathtub after attempting to also lug the Costco run upstairs. Total apathy resulted in Riddler’s executive decision to make stirfry veggies and shrimp for dinner. I had meant to throw mine on spinach and make a salad, but somehow didn’t get around to it, and just fell asleep.
Of course, I paid for that brilliant move by waking up at 2:30 in the morning hungry. Who does that happen to anymore, seriously? Managed to get back to sleep, but that was ridiculous. I should have eaten more at dinner, I guess.
Nuking a sweet potato, splitting it open, and topping it with two sunny-side up eggs and some seasoned salt may be one of the greatest discoveries of my week for the convergence of tasty and relatively easy.
